Oddpodz Connects Creative People Through The Muzeum

December 6, 2007

Oddpodz, is a social networking site for creative people. Oddpodz launched its Beta site earlier this year and in six months, the network has grown rapidly with creative thinkers. What could be the attraction to Oddpodz?

Well, Oddpodz social networking members are not teenagers, in fact, their average age is 37. They are from all over the world; they're super creative and they primarily work as professionals in creative service industries, such as ad and marketing agencies, PR firms, and many are business entrepreneurs. They want more purposeful content that provides information to help grow their businesses; they need help locating trusted resources; and they would like to have a place online to go to be inspired to tackle creative challenges. And that has not been a challenge for Oddpodz.

But could there be something else? My curiousity paid off as I found out a place where creatives from around the world meet new friends, socialize, find inspiration, collaborate, express themselves, get entertained and do business - The Muzeum.

The Muzeum has interesting features such as the
lobby, lounge, auditorium, triage, exhibits, pod garden and basement. There is also Cash for Creative... [More]

Will Safe, Clean Social Sites be Good Alternatives?

December 6, 2007

I recently wrote a post about a new social network called ConnectHit, launched on November 1 which claims to offer a safe, clean, fun alternative to popular sites such as Myspace and Facebook. But due to the huge attention that these popular social sites are gaining, it seems that little has been said about ConnectHit especially in the media.

After one month of launch, ConnectHit is having 12 members, 5 up from when I wrote the post on November 12. That's not really bad for a new social site. The site's got a user friendly interface and an interesting look. So what is really up? Is there a problem with the marketing? I'm hoping that David Zoffer, the founder of ConnectHit is asking these questions and more.

While we wait to see an increased traffic and membership strength from ConnectHit, an eye into another social network that also offers a safe, clean online community called our-social.com shows that the site is gaining popularity. I peeked into the site after I received a detailed profile from the social site's founder, Theresa Adams. The site's traffic by Alexa is increasing rapidly and it's forum currently has over 250...

TechiesClubHouse invites Tech-Pros for Networking

November 9, 2007

TechiesClubHouse.com is a new online community for technology professionals. The new social networking site launched October 18, 2007 is geared towards connecting engineers, IT and other tech professionals. With several social networking sites for professionals on the web today such as LinkedIn, Ryze, etc you may wonder what difference TechiesClubHouse would make in the competition for dominance.

Well, you can consider the network as a niche community specially designed for the tech professionals. Besides the usual features found in most other social networking sites, the major feature for TechiesClubHouse will be the discussion forums. As a metter of fact, one major section of the forums is dedicated to Careers and Career talk. For many people in the tech industry, seeking advice from others already in the industry can help a great deal. Or, a person can become a mentor for another person seeking advice on how to get their tech career started. Either way, it can be a great way to give or get advice.

Another section of the forums is dedicated to Tech-related discussions. If you have a question or need help on a programming project you can post it and (if you're lucky) a software...

Facebook Innovates Facebook Ads

November 7, 2007

Facebook is wowing their users with an ads package! The second-leading social netwotking site after Myspace has introduced an innovative plan that helps companies target messages at networks of interested consumers. The move comes as social-networking sites look to turn their large audiences into advertising revenue.

The new innovation called Facebook Ads, directs ads to people who link to the Web pages that companies create on the site. Companies then send ads to that person, and the ads are visible on his or her network of friends. The move comes as social-networking sites look to turn their large audiences into advertising revenue.

With the system's ability to target networks of linked friends, Facebook is now a threat to Google, the Internet search engine giant that has made a fortune delivering ads to consumers who use its online search service. But it comes with a risk. There is no guarantee the users of a social-networking site, where people interact with friends and display hobbies, are eager buyers.

Besides, people will be uncertain about giving marketers permission to use detailed information about their online activities, which is another feature of the ad system.

The Facebook unveiling follows the announcement of...

Yahoo! Kickstarts a New Social Network

November 5, 2007

Who would think that the Internet search giant Yahoo! would not want to have a share of the fast-growing online social network market? Just a few days ago rival Google teamed up with MySpace to tackle Facebook's dominance in the social network market. Now, the heat is on!

Yahoo! has launched Kickstart, an online social network that connects college students, graduates and alumni professionals on the job market. In creating Kickstart, Yahoo! fancied Facebook's fashion as a US college network, thus Kickstart's users build a profile entering their college details, photo and any other revelant information.

However, while Facebook is widely acknowledged as a social arena, rather than a professional one, Kickstart aims to create a professional network allowing users to find internships and jobs, or get career advice and mentorship. The site allows people to create a professional profile, browse company profiles and network with peers, professors, alumni and potential employers, all in the process of kickstarting their careers.

Google Launches OpenSocial

November 3, 2007

As first reported at TechCrunch, Google has announced a social networking platform called OpenSocial, which includes tools to allow developers to create applications that utilize personal and social data contained in participating social networks - the first step toward putting you back in control of your online relationships.

Social networks like MySpace and Facebook profit by keeping data about you and your friends locked up. And while it's possible to replicate much of the functionality of Facebook using open-source tools, the critical missing component is the "social graph" -- the map of relationships between people that makes it possible for you to see when your friends add applications, photos or new connections to their profiles.

Google appears to be supplying that missing piece, with tools to allow developers access to the social graph and other personal data on participating networks.

Several players in the social networking space such as Hi5, Plaxo, LinkedIn, Orkut, Ning and Friendster and widget developers RockYou, Slide, iLike and Flixster have all signed on to supply applications based on the platform.

Do Facebook profiles really meet recruitment needs?

November 2, 2007

Not too long ago, I wrote a blog about the social networking impact on job recruitment. Today, while offices around the UK are banning staff from using social networking sites like Facebook, an increasing number of companies are beginning to use the websites as recruitment resources.

A survey conducted by UK recruitment firms Crone Corkill and FSS revealed that 7.5 per cent of employers are using social networking sites as an informal part of the referencing process. It is expected that this percentage will increase now that Facebook profiles can be accessed quickly and easily through search engines like Google.

Meanwhile, a poll of Crone Corkill's office support candidates revealed that 86 per cent use Facebook regularly, and over 75 per cent of respondents from FSS agreed that Facebook was the site they used most frequently. The recruiters said that any extra tool to determine whether a candidate is right for the job is beneficial to recruiters.

But even if social networking profiles give a more personal insight into someone's character that cannot be portrayed on a CV, some have argued that these online profiles are personal and that companies should not mix the business and private...

An E-Y-E into i-L-i-v-e

October 29, 2007

Hey folks! Just started my personal weblog - iLive. One might say that I've taken so long to do that, huh? Well, have been thinking of what will drive me to keep it going and I realised that I didn't need to look too far. It was right at my fingers - writing!

I've been writing for several years now and have developed a passion for this art. In my experience, it's given me pleasure and satisfaction and didn't see why I couldn't create a weblog on my writing career. In this blog, I share gists about my writing career, inspiration and resources.

At the moment, I'm writing a book on...(not sure if I should let out the cat outta the basket yet), and it's been fun and interesting!

Meanwhile, hope to keep posting info about social networking and Nov. 1 is the date.

See you soonWink
